NASA Images Show Drop In Air Pollution In China

NASA satellites can measure nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the air all over the world. Every year they show a decrease in NOx air pollution over China during the New Year celebrations. The BBC is reporting that this year, the NOx air pollution did not return to normal levels after the New Year, which is likely due to factories stopping production due to Covid19.

It is amazing that we have the satellite technology to measure air pollution this way, and that we can see the effects of the economic slowdown due to Covid19. These satellite measurements are another way we can track air pollution, so we know how much effect our policies are having in reducing air pollution. Reducing air pollution will keep all of us healthier, immediately. It also fights climate change and keeps greenhouse gases out of the air.
