EPA Proposals Open for Public Comment

EPA has many proposals about clean air standards that are open for public comment right now. This is where you can truly make a difference, EPA is required to consider all public comments they receive.

All of these proposals will reduce air pollution and help keep climate change from becoming worse. Air pollution damages children’s lung growth, increases preterm birth, causes asthma attacks, heart attacks, strokes, and dementia, and affects autism, cognitive functioning, and mental illness. We can all see what hurricanes, wildfires, and droughts (that are exacerbated by climate change) are doing.

Mercury and Air Toxics from power plants: This will put stronger limits on the amount of mercury, other heavy metals such as lead and arsenic, and hazardous air pollution that power plants release. https://www.regulations.gov/commenton/EPA-HQ-OAR-2018-0794-5545 (Due June 23)

Car and pickup/SUV pollution standards (also reduces greenhouse gases): https://www.regulations.gov/document/EPA-HQ-OAR-2022-0829-0451(Due July 5)

Carbon pollution standards for fossil fuel power plants (this will also reduce other air pollution): https://www.regulations.gov/document/EPA-HQ-OAR-2023-0072-0001 (due sometime in August)

Remember, #HealthyAirIsHealthCare and Climate Change is a health emergency. These air pollution standards are something every person can comment on and help make a difference!
