ATLANTA, (November 27, 2013) — Mothers & Others for Clean Air (M&O), a program of the American Lung Association, welcomes Susan Berryman-Rodriguez as its new project director.
Berryman-Rodriguez, with more than 25 years in nonprofit management, specializes in building community partnerships, enhancing organizational visibility, and executing advocacy campaigns. Recruited by Miami-Dade County in the early 1990s, she managed the creation of a long-term strategy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. As a result of her efforts, Miami-Dade was the first county in the nation to adopt a plan to mitigate climate change. She also co-coordinated with Homestead Habitat for Humanity the development of a model sustainable community for low-income families. The first of its kind, Jordan Commons is an affordable housing community that incorporates energy efficient homes, appliances and landscaping.
More recently, Berryman-Rodriguez served as VP of Communications for an Atlanta nonprofit, and led the public relations efforts for a national women-centered group focusing on economic justice.
“Right now Mothers & Others for Clean Air is the leading voice on air quality and children’s health in Georgia. Susan has joined our team at an important time as we become a regional four-state coalition,” says Laura Turner Seydel, founder of Mothers & Others for Clean Air. “In the Southeast, there is enormous potential to improve air quality with reductions in power plant pollution, transportation improvements, energy conservation and expansion of renewable energy sources. M&O for Clean Air is leveraging the power of its members and partners to improve air quality and save lives.”
