Air pollution and climate change are causing a health crisis. Air pollution impacts a lot more than just the lungs. It can damage all of our organ systems – even our brains! Because they are still growing and developing, children are especially vulnerable to the health impacts of air pollution. Across the Southeast, air pollution and climate change are hurting children’s health, development, and ability to thrive.
Our Mission
Mothers & Others For Clean Air aims to protect children’s health by reducing the impacts of air pollution and climate change throughout the Southeast. We create coalitions and alliances between healthcare providers, parents, and community organizations to facilitate learning, collaboration, and collective action.
Our Vision for Change
To create meaningful change, we use a three-pronged approach:
Educate through storytelling, promoting science-based research, and creating educational resources.
Advocate for individual and system change to protect children’s health from the impacts of air pollution and climate change. Promote healthy, equitable, and sustainable communities. Address environmental racism and the impacts it has on children’s health.
Connect caretakers, healthcare professionals, organizations, and communities through our Healthy Air is Healthcare program. Bring the work of the Healthy Air is Healthcare program to national & international platforms.
Our Impact
- Over 20 healthcare professionals have completed our Healthy Air is Healthcare training so far. They have gone on to speak up for clean air at school board meetings, press conferences, at community events, and through the media.
- Decision makers at the local, state, and national level are hearing about the impact air pollution has on our health. We have mobilized hundreds of Georgians to submit comments to the Public Service Commission, school boards, and regulatory authorities. Our health advisor Dr. Anne has submitted expert testimony to the Environmental Protection Agency several times.
- Nearly 5,000 Georgia families are breathing clean, healthy air with the help of Intellipure air purifiers distributed by MOCA in partnership with organizations across the state.
- Over 33 school districts throughout Georgia have learned about the health benefits of electric school buses. Alongside our Healthy Air is Healthcare Champions and other clean air advocates, we have spoken to school directors of transportation, boards of education, and state representatives about the impacts of diesel exhaust pollution and the benefits of electrification.
