WABE and Grist are doing a series of stories about the Public Service Commission (PSC), the PSC’s mission, and what they do.
The first story “Who Controls the power?” talks about our PSC in Georgia which has 5 commissioners, and how the PSC has the direct authority to regulate actions and rates of Georgia Power. It also has some discussion of Electric Member Cooperatives (EMCs), and how some of them actually buy their electricity from Georgia Power.
The story also includes some information about members of the public and what they said at the January PSC hearing.
We really recommend this series. You can start by reading or listening to the first story, and then sign up to get updates.
Updates for this series include:
Georgia Power and the PSC reach a provisional agreement for more fossil fuels. It includes a good description of what’s in the agreement and what it means.
The PSC votes 4-1 to approve Georgia Power’s request for more fossil fuels.
A guide explaining all the terms used when talking about the PSC and power generation.
