The Nature Conservancy has partnered with the Middlebury Institute of International Studies to create a virtual reality experience of sea level rise for 3 coastal cities: Baltimore, Long Beach, and Santa Cruz. The program also has a 3D topographical map of the city so people can see the cities’ hills and low areas. It helps people understand what sea level rise from climate change might do to the cities.
This is a really unique and creative way to help non-scientists understand the projections of rising sea levels as glaciers and sea ice thaw. Cities in the Southeast could use something like this too!
Here is a link to listen to a news report about the program. It is about 5 minutes long.
