The University of Georgia has announced plans to buy 25 more electric buses, to add to the 8 they already have, by the end of 2021. They will have one third of their bus fleet electric, the largest university electric bus fleet in the country! Wouldn’t it be nice to see an SEC or NCAA competition for electric bus fleets!
UGA Transportation director Dan Walter said they don’t ever plan to buy another diesel bus again.
They used a combination of federal and state grants along with university funds to replace aging diesel buses with new, clean, electric buses.
Electric buses are quieter, and are zero emissions themselves. As the electricity grid gets more solar and other clean energy sources, they will produce less and less pollution overall. This is great for the students’ and the community’s health.
Way to go, UGA!!!
