Texas Storms and Climate Resilience

CNN has an article about the heartbreaking difficulties residents in Texas are facing right now. People who are running out of formula for their babies, people on oxygen who have no electricity to power their medical devices. Our thoughts are with everyone in Texas, especially those who have lost loved ones or who are in desperate situations.

In the CNN article, it explains how electric grids can be modernized and improved to be more resilient and withstand the extremes from climate change. Climate change is bringing both cold and hot extremes, and we need to be prepared for both.

If you are wondering why climate change is bringing deep freezes to Texas, here is an article from Earth.org that explains it. Warmer air in the atmosphere above the arctic weakened the polar vortex, and allowed cold air to spill out into other regions, including Texas.

If you would like to donate to relief for Texas, this article from Vox has links to mutual aid groups in Austin, Houston, and Dallas, and a link to a list of food banks in Texas. There are also other disaster relief organizations like the Red Cross. They could all use help.
