The EPA is holding public hearings today in Arlington VA on a proposed revision to the 2015 Coal Ash Rules. The proposed revision would loosen restrictions on how much and where coal ash can be placed. Coal ash is the remains of coal burned in coal power plants. In addition to coal releasing huge amounts of air pollution and carbon into the atmosphere, it leaves behind a toxic ash full of contaminants. Coal ash contains many heavy metal contaminants such as arsenic, chromium, and selenium. That is why we need good strong regulations, not loose weak regulations.
