Mothers & Others for Clean Air is pleased to announce that the Durham Academy of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy, led by Dr. Sean McLean, has joined our Partnership Council.
The Durham Academy is a member of the National Medical Association, an organization whose mission is promote the collective interests of physicians and patients of African descent. Dr. McLean is an assistant professor of surgery in the division of pediatric surgery at the University of North Carolina’s School of Medicine. He is board-certified in general surgery and pediatric surgery. From 2010-2014, Dr. McLean was one of 11 physicians nationwide to be named a Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Scholar, a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Dr. McLean and the Durham Academy will work to support Mothers & Others programs as we continue to expand within North Carolina.
Dr. David Fitzhugh, president of the N.C. Society of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology, is pleased that his organization has joined Mothers & Others for Clean Air’s Partnership Council because he sees the effects of pollution on asthmatics everyday in his practice. “We know that air pollution is really making things difficult for our patients,” said Dr. Fitzhugh about his work with Allergy Partners in Chapel Hill.
Working with the N.C. Society of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology will help M&O expand our message and work within North Carolina. Dr. Fitzhugh is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatric and Adult Allergy/Immunology. He attended the Medical College of Virginia and completed residency training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has also completed research at both UNC and Duke University prior to completing his allergy fellowship at the University of South Florida.
