The session is led by Dr. Jennifer Caicedo, an allergist and pediatrician based in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Caicedo is also the vice president of the North Carolina Allergy and Asthma Society and a Medical Home Chapter Champion on Asthma, Allergy and Anaphylaxis with the American Academy of Pediatrics. Atlanta area pediatric pulmonologist and founder of Not One More Life Dr. LeRoy Graham is also featured.
This video is intended for health professionals who are new to climate change as a health problem and want to advocate for a healthier climate for their vulnerable patients. We target these groups because when it comes to confronting climate change, there simply is no voice more trusted by the public and policy makers than health professionals. This training is appropriate for respiratory therapists, nurses, school nurses, nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants, physicians, pharmacists and other health professionals.
After completing the session, participants will be able to:
- Define climate change.
- List the health threats linked to climate change.
- Explain why children are at greater risk from climate change.
- Apply an understanding of climate change to the care and management of children’s health and illness.
- Acquire confidence to share education about climate change with their peers and patients.
- Be a children’s advocate for clean, healthy air.
