News: Health Professionals Commit to Addressing the Climate Crisis

Public health and medical professionals in Georgia and North Carolina are joining colleagues across the nation in the endorsing the American Lung Association’s Health Professionals’ Declaration on Climate Change.

The Declaration explains how the health of every American is threatened by climate change and that some groups—including children—are especially vulnerable to these threats. It also calls for bold action to both mitigate and prepare for the health impacts of climate change.

This Declaration will help send a strong message that climate action is essential to protect human health. Because health professionals are considered highly credible and trustworthy, the more support we have from the healthcare community, the greater our capacity to demand climate action.

Mothers & Others for Clean Air continues to seek health professionals** in Georgia and North Carolina to sign the Declaration on Climate Change. We invite all clinicians, including doctors, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, school nurses, and respiratory therapists as well as public health professionals to take a look and sign on if they agree. Please share the Declaration with the health professionals in your networks.

**Signing is something that can be done as an individual. It’s not necessary to sign on behalf of an organization, but many of the nation’s major health organizations have endorsed this position (see below). Simply type “prefer not to state” in the affiliation field.
