A new study examined the effects of requiring more renewable energy production in Rust Belt states. Current levels average 13% of energy production, the study looked at the effects of requiring that 20% or 26% of energy be produced from renewables. The study examined the health effects of reducing particulate air pollution, which causes heart, lung, and vascular (stroke, etc.) health problems.
The study found major health benefits from requiring that more energy be produced from renewables, and also that the health benefits resulted in more savings than costs. The savings were almost double the costs of implementing stronger requirements.
And the best news is that these health benefits were found at levels of renewables that are not hard to achieve. We can do it! Please share this news with your state and federal elected officials, including Public Service Commissions.
