Can you can really make a difference by submitting a public comment to an EPA proposed air pollution standard? Does it really matter?
YES!!!
EPA has to consider what you say about a proposed rule!
EPA is required by law to take into consideration all public comments they receive. All of them, whether they’re from community members, scientists, health care workers, or people with other backgrounds.
Because EPA has been making standards for air pollution or vehicle emissions for a long time, these standards are settled law and will go into effect quickly. There won’t be long legal fights over whether EPA is able to make the rule – they have been doing it for decades.
Setting standards for vehicle emissions and air pollution will make us all healthier, save on healthcare costs, and they’re an effective way to reduce greenhouse gases. It’s a win-win-win, and you can help make it happen.
– If you’re a community member, you can talk about your experience with air pollution.
– If you’re a member of a front-line EJ community, you can talk about your experience with air pollution as a member of an EJ community.
– If you’re a parent with a child, you can talk about wanting your child to grow up healthy and undamaged by air pollution. If you’re a pregnant parent, you can talk about not wanting your health or your pregnancy harmed by air pollution.
– If you’re a scientist, you can talk about scientific facts on air pollution.
It doesn’t matter who you are, everyone can comment, and everyone can make a difference. All perspectives help EPA make stronger policy.
Vehicle emission standards will push automakers to more clean energy vehicles. Stronger standards for particle pollution or ozone mean we will need more clean transportation and clean energy production. And because the same thing (burning fossil fuels or biofuels) is making both air pollution and greenhouse gases, having stronger standards for any kind of air pollution will also reduce greenhouse gases.
Your voice really matters!
