On Feb 17 & 18 the Breathe Again Collaborative held a 2-day event to talk about why healthy air is so good for our health, and to explain how you can hold your own event. People who attended learned about air pollution, and about the details they would need to work on in order to hold their own event.
If you attended the event, you will find links for all the resources here. If you weren’t able to attend in person, we have recordings of the event, as well as all the resources, so that you can still learn how to hold your own event and make a difference for healthy air and climate justice.
It is inspiring to be together to take collective action and let our legislators know that we need bold and meaningful climate action now.
If you missed Thursday’s training you can find a link to the recording here. If you missed Friday’s Day of Action, you can find a link to the recording here.
We have a number of resources available for you to help you plan and lead an action event in your community. You can find the Breathe Again: Healthy Air is Health Care Resource Toolkit which includes information and links for each of the other resources such as:
> social media graphics
> the Air Pollution and Health slide deck that Dr. Anne shared on Thursday
> videos and factsheets
> call, email, and social media scripts for taking legislative action
> the link we used Friday to take action.
Next Steps:
- Contact your legislators and let them know that it’s time to take climate action! Here is the link to the Phone to Action: https://p2a.co/otrf4cx. It is still working for our action and you can still make calls and send emails to members of Congress asking them to take action.
- Submit a Letter to the Editor (LTE) to your local newspaper to tell them about this event and why taking action on air pollution and climate change is important to you. You can find a sample LTE script about this event here.
Postcards to Senators and Governors:
During May, which is Clean Air Month, we are sending postcards to our senators and governors to ask for more investment in clean renewable energy and clean transportation, especially for EV school buses which affect children’s health. Senators can pass legislation funding more clean energy and EV school buses, governors can support funding with state funds and also can work to access federal funds.
For instructions on printing the postcards and finding addresses, see this document.
For the postcard file which you can use to print postcards, see these files in the resource folder. You will need to download each file. There is a single postcard for both your senator and governor, and a page with 4 postcards for your senator and governor. Use the single postcard with a commercial printer, and the 4 at a time for printing at home.
