The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) took an air sample at the south Dekalb air monitoring station in June, and the (federal) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) analyzed the sample. Preliminary results show the level of ethylene oxide at this location is more than 15 times higher than what the EPA considers acceptable, even though it is miles from a known source. The level was 0.309 micrograms/cubic meter, much higher than the EPA threshold of 0.02 micrograms/cubic meter. The EPA said the test result is preliminary and EPA is “working … to better understand the distribution of this chemical…”
