2019 Was The 2nd Hottest Year Ever

NASA and NOAA announced yesterday that 2019 was the second hottest year ever recorded. The 5 hottest years ever recorded have occurred in the last 5 years. They did separate calculations and came to the same end result.  (NASA is the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and NOAA is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.)

“The decade that just ended is clearly the warmest decade on record,” said NASA GISS Director Gavin Schmidt. “Every decade since the 1960s clearly has been warmer than the one before.”

Scientists have concluded that the temperature increase is largely driven by increased emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.

Between the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report last year saying we need to reduce emissions by 7% a year, this new report, and the fires in Australia and California, it is clear we need to do more, now. We need better policies, we need state and local governments to take action, we need to do things individually. Everything we can do, we should, as fast as possible.
