More than 11,000 scientists from 153 countries have signed a report called “World scientists’ warning of a climate emergency.” The report states “Despite 40 years of global climate negotiations, with few exceptions, we have generally conducted business as usual and have largely failed to address this predicament.”
It addresses ways humans are affecting the climate, including greenhouse gases, population growth, economic trends, per capita meat consumption, and global tree cover loss.
It calls for policies that address all the ways humans are impacting the climate, including strengthening human rights, family planning, “massive energy efficiency and conservation practices”, cutting emissions of soot and methane, long term economic sustainability and reducing inequality, and preserving existing forests.
The report is much stronger than recent UN IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) reports.
